MEDICARE ANNUAL WELLNESS VISIT (AWV)
Yearly preventative screening
Medicare part B covers one AWV in every 12 month period
As you age, things come up and together we can get in front of these issues when we set a baseline screening and then follow up annually to address any changes to your health. Take advantage of this opportunity. It's included with your Medicare coverage!
Things to expect in your AWV, yearly preventative screening
Appointments are scheduled with a medical professional from our office, often an RN or other licensed medical provider and NOT with your regular doctor.
-
Check your weight and blood pressure
-
Update the health risk assessment
-
Update your medical and family history
-
Update your current care team, preferred facilities, and DME suppliers
-
To ensure you are up to date on your preventative screening schedule
-
Screen for cognitive issues
-
Provide health advice and referrals to health education and preventative counseling services
Things that won't be covered in
your annual screening:
-
Refills of current medications
-
Discussion of preexisting conditions
-
Discussion of new conditions
-
Urine or blood sample testing
-
Most vaccinations
Note: An annual medical exam is not Medicare Annual Wellness Visit.
WHAT IF I NEED SOMETHING MORE?
Regular office visits and physical exams are different from your Annual Wellness Visit (AWV). A physical exam, prescription refills, and treatment or procedures for new and preexisting conditions are all considered regular office visits and likely require a copay, additional insurance coverage, or out of pocket payment. Below, are examples of regular office visits and not part of your Medicare coverage.
